Overview of the Early Winter Visit to Simhaksan
On December 12, 2025, I went to Simhaksan for the first time in almost a month.
Climbing up to the summit felt difficult, so I sat down and looked up at the sky, noticing there were many tree branches. Somehow, it seems that my stamina has become even worse than before.

As I get closer to the summit, I usually see cats. The cats always stay in the same spot.

Areas Seen from the Summit of Simhaksan
- Paju Unjeong
- Odusan Unification Observatory
- Ilsan Bridge
Paju Unjeong
Unjeong in Paju, Gyeonggi-do is divided into six districts. More than half of Paju’s population is concentrated in Unjeong. In general, the apartments here are newer than those in Ilsan, as Ilsan was developed earlier as a new town.

First Visit to Starfield Village Unjeong – A 30-Minute Walk-Through
Odusan Unification Observatory
Opened on September 8, 1992, the Odusan Unification Observatory is a place where you can see North Korean territory. Interestingly, the distance from the observatory to North Korea is shorter than the distance from the observatory to Simhaksan. At the Jogang Observatory in Aegibong Peace Ecopark in Gimpo, you can see North Korea even more closely.

Ilsan Bridge
Opened on May 16, 2008, Ilsan Bridge is the last bridge crossing the Han River. It is a toll bridge, and many people, including myself, wish it were free.
While I hope for a new “last bridge” to be built, I think it may be difficult due to its proximity to North Korea.
