A Comedy Short on Laughs: Ok! Madam
The film Ok! Madam was released on August 12, 2020. It attracted 1.22 million viewers, failing to reach the break-even point. One possible reason is that if a movie aims to be funny, it needs to commit and be much funnier. Another factor was its release during the COVID-19 pandemic. I remember watching this film in a theater while wearing a mask.
Bae Jung-nam’s Predictable Performance
In Ok! Madam, actress Uhm Jung-hwa plays Mi-young, Park Sung-woong plays Seok-hwan, Lee Sang-yoon plays Cheol-seung, Bae Jung-nam plays Hyun-min, and Lee Sun-bin plays Sera. The film was directed by Lee Chul-ha.
Bae Jung-nam has more screen time here than in Mr. Zoo: The Missing VIP, which was released on January 22, 2020. However, his role as a troublemaker and his exaggerated facial expressions are the same as before, making his performance feel repetitive.
Brief Plot Summary
The film opens in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in 2009, where Mok-ryeon shoots Cheol-seung and flees.
As time passes, Mi-young sells twisted doughnuts at a market somewhere in Seoul, South Korea, while Seok-hwan runs an electronics repair shop. Mi-young checks a lid and discovers that she has won a family trip to Hawaii. The Mi-young family boards a plane for their trip—but there are terrorists on board.
Action
The action scenes featuring Mi-young fighting the terrorists are not on the level of a blockbuster. It’s unclear how much of the action Uhm Jung-hwa performed herself, as it certainly wasn’t 100%.
Twists
Mi-young’s true identity is revealed, along with the identities of Seok-hwan and another man. Thanks to its action and plot twists, Ok! Madam is not boring.

Post-Credits Scene and Sequel
In the post-credits scene, a man wakes up to find himself alone inside an airplane. This character is played by actor Kim Nam-gil.
As of January 16, 2026, I understand that filming for Ok! Madam 2 has already been completed. However, the release date has not yet been announced.
