Overview of My First Visit to Gaeseong Halmae Traditional Yukgaejang in Cheorwon
On Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, I visited Gaeseong Halmae Traditional Yukgaejang in Cheorwon for the first time.
If you plan to visit the Hantan River Columnar Jointing in Cheorwon, I recommend trying the mushroom yukgaejang at Gaeseong Halmae Traditional Yukgaejang. The Hantan River Columnar Jointing is closed on Tuesdays, and Gaeseong Halmae Traditional Yukgaejang is closed on Mondays.

Mushroom Yukgaejang
It was my first visit to “Gaeseong Grandma Traditional Yukgaejang.” I ordered the mushroom yukgaejang. At this restaurant, you need to choose the spiciness level: mild, regular, slightly spicy, or spicy. I chose regular, and it suited my taste. The price for the mushroom yukgaejang is 10,000 KRW. The large size is 13,000 KRW. I’m curious what the difference is for the extra 3,000 KRW.
After picking out all the solid ingredients from the mushroom yukgaejang, only a little broth was left. I didn’t drink the remaining broth, and even if I visit again, I probably won’t. For my taste, it’s spicy enough.
I didn’t just eat there; I also ordered takeout of the mushroom yukgaejang and mushroom hot pot bulgogi to eat at home. I prefer the mushroom yukgaejang over the mushroom hot pot bulgogi.
Gaeseong Halmae Traditional Yukgaejang Location and Parking
The restaurant sign of “Gaeseong Grandma Traditional Yukgaejang” says “Yukgaejang Story.” I’m not sure what history it has.
You can park in front of the restaurant. There is plenty of parking space.
